Skiing/Snowboarding Destinations in British Columbia
If you love to ski/ride, British Columbia is the place for your
next holiday. With several world class ski resorts and
some of the most beautiful scenery you will ever see, this
is a top-notch vacation destination. Neighbors to the
North of the United States, skiing in BC is the place to
be. The ski season typically lasts anywhere from November
until April, sometimes even slipping into May at the higher
altitude resorts. BC has built much of its tourism economy
on its ski resorts, and it shows in these wonderful
resorts.
Located two hours north of Vancouver, Whistler Blackcomb is
the cream of the crop. There are two gorgeous mountains and
a town to boot. Stunning Whistler Village rests at the base
of the ski hills. You will see million dollar homes; enjoy
lots of shopping as well as the active nightlife in the
restaurants and bars. You don't even have to be a skier or
snowboarder to have a super time in Whistler Village. There
is the best powder snow all year round, and there are runs
to suit the novice to the most advanced.
There are over 200 runs within the 3,036 hectares of
terrain. Even if you stay a week, you might not ski the
same runs twice. You will spend less time in lift lines
than usual and more time on the hills, as they have 33
lifts, many of which are high-speed. In order to enjoy
the full experience, plan to spend a minimum of a few
days at Whistler Blackcomb.
Another great BC ski resort to consider is Big White.
Located about an hour outside Kelowna, Big White is perfect
for family holidays. It has a village with bars and
restaurants, and excellent accommodations. You can find
everything from value rooms to chalets, complete with hot
tub, big enough for the whole family. The ski hill has 15
lifts and more than 118 runs. You can also enjoy
cross-country skiing on a number of designated trails. Maybe
you'd rather ice skate on a pond or make use of the tubing
area. You can also night ski at Big White and receive a
discount on your lift ticket as well.
Some of the other outstanding ski resorts in BC are Silver
Star in Vernon, Sun Peaks in Kamloops, Apex in Penticton,
and some smaller hills within about 20 minutes of Vancouver.
You can't beat a winter ski vacation in BC. You can often
find combination deals for your airfare and hotel. Shuttles
will take you to your accommodations from most of the major
airports. Be sure and take advantage of the great packages
that BC has to offer you.
