Sun Valley, the oldest destination ski resort in the US, was the home of the world's first chairlift (and reportedly the first hot tub!). Long a favorite among the Hollywood clique, Clark Gable, Errol Flynn, Gary Cooper, Judy Garland, Paul Newman, Brooke Shields, George Hamilton, Clint Eastwood and Marilyn Monroe are among past and present fans of Sun Valley. Built on a reputation of high class, Sun Valley continues to be known for its ambience and classic ski center feel but it also features excellent skiing and snowboarding. The resort features two mountains, Dollar and Baldy, which is considered by many to be one of the best skiing mountains in the US. Dollar, on the other hand, is a beginner's paradise with gentle, sunny slopes, groomed to perfection. Eighteen lifts (including seven high-speed detachable quads) give Sun Valley a staggering uphill capacity of 28,180 people per hour, keeping lift lines virtually non-existent. When it is for lunch, dinner or a quick snack between runs, you'll notice one more contrast to most resorts: Sun Valley's on-mountain menu. Fresh offerings such as mesquite-grilled chicken, salmon, swordfish and prime rib are among the offerings and meals are served in a unique cluster format, offering a variety of dining choices.
